You must consider the risk from any processes or machinery use and that your first aid provision meets the potential need for any incidents that may occur. You can work with others who share premises with you. If an outside organisation provides First Aiders, (i.e. security) you need to ensure their training meets your needs. (i.e. they have EFAW, where as you need FAW). You should also consider the needs for any medical condition for which an employee may need support.<\/p>\n Other considerations will include, covering shift work, remote working and the ability of First Aiders to promptly respond to any incident, for example they may have to shut down plant, or travel a distance to reach the casualty, or even not always be on site. Your provision should also include expected absence. You do not have to shut down production if your First Aider has a flat tyre, but Holidays and training are expected and should be covered.<\/p>\n Choose your potential First Aider wisely, they should be both willing to perform First Aid and able to perform physical tasks, i.e. kneel to perform resuscitation on a prostrate casualty.
